Okinawa Te Karate is a comprehensive combat martial art system, founded by Grand Master Gordon A. Doversola. Okinawa Te Karate was developed with the idea of balance at its core and has developed many elite practitioners that range from military, law enforcement, security professionals, fight scene coordinators, actors, stuntmen, and professional athletes. Okinawa Te Karate is considered by many to be the original mixed martial art and is a highly respected system with a long and acclaimed history in Simi Valley.
As Simi Valley’s first established martial arts program, Okinawa Te Karate includes techniques such as dynamic hand strikes, kicks, proper footwork, joint locks and submissions, throws, take downs, take down defenses, break falls, escapes and counters to all holds and ground fighting defense. This includes defense against knives and clubs as well as offensive weapon techniques for advanced students, and much more.
Self-defense is complex issue. What is it? It is about recovery from bad luck or stupidity, from finding yourself in a position you would have given almost anything to prevent. It is difficult to train for because of the surprise element and because you may be injured before you are aware of the conflict. The critical element is to overcome the shock and surprise so you can act, to “beat the freeze.” Self-defense is about recovery. The ideal is to prevent the situation.
The optimal mindset is often the conditioned response that requires no thought. Now this encompasses more than you may think. It is not just about dealing with predatory attack. The physical skills and self-defense aspect of training will never save as many people from violence as the conditioning will save from early heart attacks. If you study Okinawa Te you may never use the skills to throw an attacker, but I can almost guarantee that you will have used a break falls to prevent injury. Self-defense is complex and far reaching. Okinawa Te’s primary purpose is to develop the skilled technique, and mindset necessary to give confidence and provide peace of mind.
Okinawa Te provides an outstanding physical fitness regime by utilizing the entire body with explosive movement and a full range of motion for balanced muscle tone and strength development. It greatly improves cardio, flexibility and agility, balance and coordination, and provides stress relief and many other health benefits.
Training in Okinawa Te is not only fun but the athleticism that is developed will effect every aspect of your life. Everything is connected. Okinawa Te will provide a solid base foundational structure that will support and compliment any activity that you enjoy, from golf to soccer, baseball, football or basketball, tennis or track and field, dance or gymnastics. Okinawa Te practitioners have realized a great deal of success in the sporting community that range from:
